Benelux Circuit for Travel Agents: Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg in One Programme

24 July 2026 · Explera Group · 3 min read

The Benelux circuit — Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg — is one of Europe's most compact multi-country programmes, covering extraordinary cultural and heritage density across a geographic area smaller than many single-country destinations. For agents, a well-constructed Benelux programme can deliver four distinct capital cities, medieval towns, world-class museums, and culinary experiences across a week-long circuit.

Brussels: Art Nouveau Capital and EU Hub

Brussels offers a combination of medieval heritage (Grand Place, one of Europe's most beautiful market squares), Art Nouveau architecture (Victor Horta's masterpiece houses, concentrated in the Ixelles neighbourhood), and contemporary identity as the capital of the EU. The Grand Place's guild houses — gilded Baroque façades around a cobblestone square — are best experienced at night when lit.

The Manneken Pis (the 17th-century bronze statue of a urinating boy) remains one of Europe's most ironic must-sees. The Atomium (the 1958 World Fair exhibition structure, now a cultural museum) is a distinctive modern architecture experience and photography opportunity.

For MICE and incentives in Brussels, the European Parliament offers guided group visits (advance booking required); the Autoworld vintage car museum in the Cinquantenaire is available for private evening events; and the iconic Hôtel de Ville on the Grand Place can be accessed for certain group events through the Brussels Events department.

Bruges: Medieval Canal City

Bruges (Brugge in Flemish) is Belgium's most visited city after Brussels — a preserved medieval town of canals, Gothic spires, and Flemish paintings. The Groeninge Museum houses one of the finest collections of Flemish Primitive paintings anywhere (Jan van Eyck, Hans Memling); the Memling in Sint-Jan museum is housed in a 12th-century hospital with an extraordinary collection.

Canal boat tours through Bruges run approximately 30 minutes and depart from five quayside locations. Beer enthusiasts should note that Bruges has its own UNESCO-listed living tradition of Belgian beer culture; a Bruges Beer Museum is located on the Market Square, and several historic abbeys in the region brew Trappist ales.

Tours and experiences in Bruges include chocolate and lace workshops (Bruges is the global centre of Belgian lace-making), guided cycling tours through the surrounding Flemish flatland, and evening carillon concerts from the Market Hall bell tower.

Ghent: The Undiscovered Gem

Ghent sits between Brussels and Bruges and is frequently overlooked on standard Benelux circuits — an error, as it is arguably Belgium's most distinctive city. The Sint-Baafs Cathedral houses Jan van Eyck's polyptych The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb (the Ghent Altarpiece), one of art history's most significant works. The medieval Castle of the Counts (Gravensteen), the Graslei harbour, and the Patershol quarter form a full-day programme.

Luxembourg City

Luxembourg City, with its dramatic Old Town built on cliff edges above the Pétrusse and Alzette rivers, is Europe's most underrated capital. The UNESCO-listed Casemates (an 18th-century tunnel system carved into the cliff) and the Grand Ducal Palace form the core heritage programme. Luxembourg is an excellent start or end point for circuits extending into the Moselle wine valley or Ardennes.

Standard Benelux Circuit Routing
