Luggage is the part of a group programme nobody quotes and everybody notices. A coach with a full hold is invisible; a platform with forty suitcases and a two-minute stop is not. Each of our four destinations has its own point where bags stop being a detail and start deciding the itinerary.
This is a map of those points, and of the choice each one forces: move the bags with the group, or move them separately.
日本：火车说了算
On the Tokaido, Sanyo, Kyushu and Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen, a bag whose three dimensions add up to between 160 and 250 centimetres needs a reserved seat with an oversized-baggage area. Boarding with one unreserved brings a 1,000-yen fee and the bag is moved by staff; nothing over 250 centimetres is carried at all. Standard large suitcases sit in that band.
For a group, the rule is less about the fee than about the platform. Stops are short, and forty passengers each managing a large case is the scenario the rule exists to prevent. That is why most group programmes in 日本 forward luggage separately by courier between hotels and travel by train with an overnight bag. Forwarding typically arrives the next day or the day after depending on distance, so it has to be planned against the hotel sequence, not added at the last minute.
韩国：最后一百米
韩国 is mostly coach-based for groups, so the bags ride in the hold and the transfer is straightforward. The pinch point is the traditional stay. Hanok guesthouses sit on narrow lanes where a coach cannot reach the door, and the last stretch is on foot over uneven ground. Porterage for that stretch, or a smaller vehicle shuttle, belongs in the quote — not in the client's arms at the end of a long day.
泰国：乘船接驳
In 泰国 the pressure point is the island transfer. Speedboats and ferries carry luggage in open or semi-open holds, landings can mean a pier ladder or a beach, and spray is part of the ride. Group bags need tagging per room, a crew briefed on who handles them, and a check on the vessel's real luggage capacity against the manifest, because a boat sized for passengers is not always sized for their suitcases.
Domestic flights are the second trap: a low-cost domestic ticket often carries a smaller checked allowance than the client's long-haul fare, and the difference is paid at the counter unless it is booked in advance.
印度尼西亚：完全没有机动车
Some of the most requested places in 印度尼西亚 have no motorised road transport. The Gili Islands off Lombok have no cars or motorbikes; arrival is by boat, often to a beach landing, and bags move by horse cart, bicycle trolley or porter. A group that arrives with one large case per person needs porterage booked at the landing, or a split: overnight bags to the island, main luggage held on Bali or Lombok.

For each move in the programme, ask one thing: does the luggage travel with the group, or separately? Separately means forwarding, storage or a dedicated vehicle, with a timing that must fit the hotel sequence. With the group means capacity — boat hold, platform time, lane width — checked against the real number of bags, not the passenger count.
常见问题
Does every Shinkansen line require an oversized-baggage reservation? The rule applies to the Tokaido, Sanyo, Kyushu and Nishi Kyushu lines. Other routes have their own arrangements, so check the specific train.
Is luggage forwarding in Japan same-day? Not as a rule. Plan on the next day or later depending on distance, and send it the day before it is needed.
How should we quote porterage? As its own line, per transfer, with the number of bags stated. It is the cost that disappears in a package price and reappears as a complaint.
What should the client pack? An overnight bag for every night the main luggage is travelling separately, with medication and documents in it.
