Automated immigration gates are spreading across Asian airports, and the detail that matters to an agent is almost never mentioned in the announcement: which direction they run. A gate on the departures side speeds a client out of the country. It does nothing whatsoever for the arrival transfer, the meet-and-greet window or the driver waiting in the car park — and those are the parts of the day your operation is actually holding.
Read every rollout announcement with that question first. It changes which end of the trip you can tighten.
出国側が先、が通常の順序
There is an operational reason automated channels usually open on departures before arrivals, and it is worth understanding because it predicts what you will see next. Departure processing is a simpler decision: the traveller is leaving, their entry has already been assessed, and the system is largely confirming identity against a record that exists. Arrival processing carries the entry decision itself — visa status, permitted stay, grounds for refusal — and automating it is a bigger step with more at stake.
So the useful default assumption is: when a new automated channel is announced, assume departures unless the announcement says otherwise, and assume the arrivals counterpart is a separate project on its own timeline.

四つの目的地の位置づけ
日本 and 韓国 are the furthest along and the most consistent, with automated processing established at the major international gateways on both sides of the journey for eligible travellers. Eligibility is still the constraint rather than availability — it turns on passport type and on registration, and a group will rarely be uniformly eligible.
タイ is mid-rollout and uneven between airports, which is exactly where the departures-first pattern bites. Bangkok is further along than the regional gateways, and at least one regional airport has automated channels running on departures while the arrivals-side position has not been confirmed publicly. Our Phuket automated channels guide keeps that arrivals question deliberately open rather than closing it: the departure lanes are verified and sellable, and the arrivals side is not something we will assert either way without evidence.
インドネシア has introduced automated channels at its principal gateways, with eligibility and availability varying by airport and by traveller nationality more than in the northern markets.
The common factor across all four: availability is not eligibility, and eligibility is per passenger. A coach of thirty will not clear as one unit.
これが変えるのはパンフレットではなく送迎の見積もり
For a group arrival, the binding constraint is the slowest member, not the average. If two-thirds of a party clear an automated gate in ninety seconds and the rest queue at a staffed desk, the coach still leaves when the last person boards. Automation compresses the tail only if everyone is eligible — otherwise it produces a group that is split across two halls, which is operationally worse than everyone queuing together.
The practical guidance we give agents is unglamorous and holds everywhere: brief clients for a staffed queue. That briefing is correct whether or not the gates are open to them, it never disappoints, and anything faster is a bonus rather than a promise you made.

- Which direction does the automated channel run at this specific airport — arrivals, departures or both?
- Which passports are eligible, and does the whole party hold one?
- Does eligibility require prior registration, and can that be done before travel?
- Is there a minimum height or an age floor? Several systems have one, which splits families.
- What is the fallback, and is the staffed desk adequately open at this arrival time?
- Has anything changed since the last group? This is the fastest-moving item on the list.
Explera の対応
Our ground teams work the arrival halls daily and report what is actually happening rather than what was announced, which is why our position on an unconfirmed rollout is to say it is unconfirmed. We plan the meet-and-greet and the vehicle against the staffed-desk timing, so a faster clearance releases the day rather than rescuing it.
Send the Explera trade desk your flight numbers and party composition and we will tell you what to brief, per airport, as it stands today. For the paperwork that precedes any of this, our Asia entry paperwork guide covers arrival cards and visas across the four destinations.
よくあるご質問
Will my clients clear immigration faster with automated gates?
Only if they are eligible and the gates run in the direction they are travelling. Many rollouts open on departures first, which does nothing for an arrival transfer.
Can a whole group use automated gates together?
Rarely. Eligibility is per passenger and depends on passport type, prior registration and sometimes age or height. A group usually splits, and the coach leaves when the last person boards.
Should I promise faster arrivals in the itinerary?
No. Brief for a staffed queue, which is correct either way, and treat a faster clearance as a bonus. A promise of automated clearance is a promise about someone else's infrastructure.
Does an automated gate replace the arrival card or visa?
No. It automates the identity check at the border; it does not remove a visa requirement or a digital arrival card where one applies. Those are separate obligations.
How do I find out the current position at a specific airport?
Ask your ground operator rather than relying on the announcement. Rollouts move, and they move unevenly between a country's own airports.
