The Golf Day in an Incentive Programme: Lessons From Bali

2 October 2026 · Explera DMC · 3 min read

A golf day works best in an incentive programme as one morning inside a wider plan, not as the whole day. Bali shows the shape well. Our Indonesia team describes the courses and the planning in its briefing on golf for incentive groups in Bali. Here we look at what it means for the way a group programme is built.

What Bali Offers a Golfing Group

Bali has a small number of international-standard golf courses. The coastal courses sit on the southern peninsula, close to the Nusa Dua and Bukit resort areas, so the transfer on the morning of play is short. A cooler highland course lies in the mountains of central Bali and pairs best with a night or a day in the highlands.

Caddies are standard on Bali courses, and rental clubs mean guests do not need to fly with their own bags.

Why the Shotgun Start Suits a Group

  • One timetable. A shotgun start puts the whole field on the course at once, so the group tees off together.
  • One finish. Everyone comes off the course at the same time, ready for lunch and the prize-giving.
  • One shared moment. The prize-giving lunch is where players and non-players meet again as one group.

The Three Things to Plan Early

Tournament slots and large tee-time blocks are limited, especially in the peak months. Request them as soon as the programme dates are fixed, and confirm the format with the course in writing.

Plan for heat and rain. An early start avoids the midday heat, and a rain plan agreed in advance gives a delayed start, a shorter format or a fallback activity.

Look after the guests who do not play. In most incentive groups many guests do not golf, so run a parallel morning, such as a cooking class, a spa or a cultural visit, and bring both groups together for lunch.

What to Promise a Client

Promise a well-run tournament morning; with enough notice that is dependable. Do not promise a specific course before it confirms, because group blocks depend on availability, and do not promise dry weather. Put the rain plan in the proposal.
