Immigration New Zealand has moved Group Visitor Visa and Tour Escort Visitor Visa applications to its enhanced Immigration Online system. Drafts left in the old system are deleted on 8 October 2026, and applications already submitted are still processed. The New Zealand trade blog covers the detail in its guide to the group visa change. Here we look at what it means for agents who run group programmes.
What Has Changed
The dates come from two Immigration New Zealand notices, published on 11 and 24 August 2026.
- 24 August 2026. New group and tour escort applications go to enhanced Immigration Online.
- 24 September 2026. Most other visitor visa types can no longer be started in the old system.
- 8 October 2026. The old forms close and any remaining drafts are deleted. The group notice gives 7 October as the last day to complete a draft.
- Submitted applications. Applications already lodged on the old form are still processed, with no action needed.

Why It Matters to a Group Agent
The rules for who needs a visa have not changed. What has changed is where the file lives, and a draft that is not finished in time is lost.
- One file for the group. Immigration New Zealand says one group application can hold up to 50 visitor visa applications, and all members must arrive together.
- Shared access. The new system lets an application be shared with other group members and tour agency staff.
- Escort, not guide. A tour escort helps with arrivals, departures and translation. Leading activities or giving in-depth local knowledge is guiding, which needs separate work authorisation.
What to Check This Week
- Find old drafts. Complete them before the deadline, or start again in the new system.
- Leave submitted files alone. Do not resubmit a group that is already lodged.
- Allow extra time. A first application in a new system takes longer, so build it into the lead time.
- Confirm entry rules at quotation. Visa requirements and processing times are set by Immigration New Zealand and can change.
