A Daejeon and Cheongju study tour gives school, university and corporate groups science, research and the history of printing in one compact corner of central Korea. Our Korea team describes the sites in its briefing on Daejeon and Cheongju for groups. This note covers what the agent decides: where the two cities sit in the programme, which visits suit which group and what to request early.
Where the Two Cities Fit
- Between Seoul and the south. Daejeon is about an hour from Seoul by KTX, so a day or two here fits on the way to Busan or Jeonju without a long coach day.
- As a study block. The two cities are close together, so one base covers science in Daejeon and printing history in Cheongju.
- With a regional airport nearby. Cheongju has an international airport, which can help some regional flight plans.

Match the Visits to the Group
- School groups. Daejeon's National Science Museum has large hands-on galleries, and the Expo Science Park, the site of Taejon Expo '93, adds the Hanbit Tower.
- University and corporate groups. Daejeon has a large research district of government and corporate institutes. Technical visits happen only by advance request to each institute, and a host can decline.
- History and culture groups. Cheongju's Early Printing Museum stands on the site of Heungdeoksa, where Jikji, the oldest surviving book printed with movable metal type, was printed in 1377. The only surviving copy is held by the National Library of France, so the museum shows replicas and the printing process.
- A slower afternoon. Cheongnamdae, a former presidential retreat by a lake, has been open to visitors since 2003, and Sangdang Sanseong, a mountain fortress whose walls were rebuilt in 1716, has walls to walk.

What to Request Early
- Technical visits. Send the group profile and the purpose of the visit well ahead; each institute decides on its own.
- Rail seats. Group KTX seats are easier to hold when the travel date is fixed early.
- The guide. A guide who can explain both the science and the printing history keeps the two days connected.
- An evening plan. Yuseong, Daejeon's hot-spring district, gives a quiet evening after a study day.
Why It Matters to the Agent
Central Korea gives a study or corporate group content most Korea programmes never include, and the KTX keeps it inside a Seoul–Busan route. The story of Jikji is easy for teachers and group leaders to explain before the trip.
