Nintendo Museum for Tour Groups: Selling a Lottery Ticket

7 October 2026 · Explera DMC · 2 min read

The Nintendo Museum in Uji, just south of Kyoto, sells its tickets by a random drawing about three months ahead, and every ticket is issued in the visitor's own name, with ID checked on the day. For a tour group that means no one can guarantee entry when the programme is sold. Our Japan team explains the ticket rules in its briefing on Nintendo Museum tickets for groups. Here we look at how to write the museum into a group programme without promising what nobody can deliver.

Why It Cannot Be a Fixed Inclusion

  • No agency channel. The museum publishes no group or trade booking route, so there is no allocation to hold.
  • Named tickets. Each ticket carries the visitor's name and cannot be passed to someone else, so a ticket won by one client cannot cover another.
  • Results arrive late. The drawing for a travel month opens about three months before it, often after the programme has been sold.
A grandmother, a mother and a boy playing a video game together. Gaming fans come in every age, and each of them needs a ticket in their own name.

How to Write It into the Programme

Sell an Uji day that stands on its own: Byodo-in, the town's tea houses and the riverside. Then list the museum as an optional extra that depends on the clients winning tickets themselves. Put that condition in the contract wording, so nobody expects a refund or a substitute if the drawing goes the wrong way. Tell clients when the drawing window for their travel month opens, and that every person in the party must be listed.

On the Day

The museum is closed on Tuesdays and over the New Year. Visitors are asked to come by public transport; it is a short walk from Kintetsu Ogura and JR Ogura stations. Remind every client who won a ticket to carry the ID that matches the name on it.

Hands passing a passport and a printed ticket. Named tickets mean every visitor carries ID that matches the booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a travel agency buy Nintendo Museum tickets for a group?

No group or agency route is published. Each visitor applies through the museum's drawing in their own name.

When should clients enter the drawing?

About three months before the month they will travel. Check the museum's own site for the current window.

What if the group does not win tickets?

Keep the Uji day as it is. Byodo-in and the tea town make a full day without the museum.
