A palace at night is one of the most photographed evenings in Seoul, and one of the hardest to promise to a group. Our Korea team explains the programmes in its briefing on Seoul's palaces after dark. This note is for the agent: how to put a palace evening into a quote without selling something the market cannot deliver.
What the Market Offers
- Gyeongbokgung night opening. A seasonal programme, held for a few weeks in spring and autumn. The autumn 2026 run was set for 2 September to 2 October, so it has now closed for this year.
- Changdeokgung moonlight tours. Guided evening walks in small batches. The autumn 2026 run was scheduled to 17 October.
- Deoksugung in the evening. Open until 21:00 with last entry at 20:00, closed on Mondays, and the reliable choice.
Dates, ticket channels and rules are announced shortly before each season and change from one year to the next, so check them again for the year you are quoting.
Why a Group Cannot Simply Be Booked
- Tickets are sold in small numbers online. Most sell out quickly, and there is no group block to request.
- Buyers face per-person limits. One buyer can purchase only a few tickets, so a group of 30 cannot be placed in one transaction.
- Foreign visitors have a separate route. A small same-day allocation is kept for visitors who show a passport, which suits small groups with free time but not a coach on a fixed timetable.
How to Word the Quote
- Call it "subject to availability". Do not list a night opening as a confirmed inclusion unless the tickets are held.
- Name a confirmed alternative for the same evening. Deoksugung after dark, or a palace gate and wall seen lit from Gwanghwamun Square, keeps the evening intact if the special programme cannot be had.
- Put the season in the contract. If the group travels outside the spring and autumn openings, there is no night programme to sell at all.

Where It Fits in a Programme
- Small and incentive groups. The best fit, because the passport route and small batches suit fewer guests. Our team follows each season's announcements and tries for the special programmes when dates allow.
- Larger groups. Treat the palace evening as a dinner-and-walk plan around Deoksugung, and offer the night opening only as an option.
- Autumn departures. Build the palace by day and the evening separately, so one is not hostage to the other.
Why It Matters to the Agent
Guests remember palaces at night, and they sell a Seoul itinerary well. The risk is a promise made at booking that the ticketing system cannot keep. A quote that is honest about availability and carries a confirmed fallback protects both the client and the margin.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a group of 30 book a palace night opening together?
Usually not. Tickets are sold in small numbers with per-person limits and no group block, so a large group should be quoted subject to availability.
Which palace is the safe evening option?
Deoksugung. It is open until 21:00, with last entry at 20:00, and closed on Mondays.
Do the night programmes run all year?
No. They are seasonal, mainly spring and autumn, and the dates change each year.
Can foreign visitors buy tickets on the day?
A small same-day allocation is usually kept for foreign visitors who show a passport. It suits small groups and is not reliable for a fixed schedule.
