Bangkok Tops a Readers' City Poll: How Group Agents Should Use It

10 October 2026 · Explera DMC · 2 min read

Bangkok was ranked first among cities in Condé Nast Traveller's 2026 Readers' Choice Awards, with 97.68 points to Paris's 97.14, according to reports published in early October 2026. In 2025 Bangkok was not in the top 20, and Valletta won. Our Thailand team covers the result in its briefing on the Condé Nast Traveller city ranking. Here we look at how agents who sell groups across Asia can use it.

What the Result Is

  • A readers' vote. It measures what readers of the magazine say they liked. It is not an inspection or a market study.
  • A big jump. Moving from outside the top 20 to first in one year is a change in sentiment, not in the city itself.
  • Not the only poll. In March 2026 the Tourism Authority of Thailand reported that DestinAsian readers named Bangkok the best city in Asia for the third year in a row.
  • Not yet checked at source. The reports we found do not give the number of voters, and we have not seen the magazine's own results page.

Using It in a Group Proposal

A poll result is a good opening line for a client who already wants a city stay. It is not a reason on its own, and it says nothing about hotel space, queues or prices on your group's dates. Name the poll and the year, and say "ranked first among cities by Condé Nast Traveller readers in 2026". Avoid "the world's best city". If you quote both results, name each one.

Bangkok also works as a hub. Many groups fly in or out through the city, so two or three nights there can open or close a programme that continues to Phuket, Chiang Mai or a second country. Build those nights around what visitors praise: the river, the food, the markets and the temples.
