A trade fair tells you what a destination wants to sell; it does not tell you what will operate for your clients. Tourism EXPO Japan 2026 closed in Tokyo on 27 September, and agents who visited came home with brochures, contacts and new ideas. The work that turns those into bookable product starts now.
What Happened at Tourism EXPO Japan 2026
The fair ran from 24 to 27 September at Tokyo Big Sight. The first two days were for the trade and the press, and the last two were open to the public. The organisers reported a preliminary total of 183,270 visitors across the four days.
According to the organisers, 1,420 companies and organisations took part with 1,553 booths, 597 of them from overseas. Exhibitors came from 74 countries and regions outside Japan, alongside 46 of Japan's prefectures. The next edition is scheduled for 23 to 26 September 2027, again at Tokyo Big Sight.
Indonesia used the fair to present its "Go Beyond Ordinary" campaign, with eight Indonesian companies on its stand. The destinations it featured went well beyond Bali, including Lombok, Labuan Bajo, Raja Ampat, Yogyakarta, Bromo and Toraja.

A Stand Promotes; a Programme Has to Operate
A destination stand shows the places a tourism board wants visitors to discover. That is useful, but a promoted destination is not yet a product. Before you add it to a brochure, you need to know how clients get there, where they stay, who guides them, and what happens when a flight or ferry is cancelled.
That gap is widest for the regional destinations fairs like to promote. A region can be beautiful and still have few hotels suitable for groups, long transfers or seasonal access.
Five Questions to Ask After the Fair
How do clients reach it, and how long does it take from the nearest international gateway?
Is there accommodation that suits your clients, in the numbers you need, on your dates?
Are there guides who speak your clients' language?
What happens if weather or transport disrupts the plan?
Can the product be quoted on a net rate, with clear inclusions?

Applying It Across Our Four Destinations
The same questions apply to all four destinations. A new region in Japan, a regional city in Korea, a province outside Thailand's main circuit or an island beyond Bali all need the same checks before they go on sale. A destination management company can answer most of them quickly, because it already contracts the hotels, transport and guides on the ground.
