Attraction fee changes for tour groups are easy to miss, because a sight fee is a small line in a large quote. Himeji Castle shows why it matters. Since 1 March 2026, adults who do not live in Himeji City pay about two and a half times the old adult fee, while residents keep the lower price. Our Japan team covers the detail in its guide to Himeji Castle's new fees and resident pricing. This note covers what it means for the agent who builds the quote.
What Changed at Himeji Castle
- Two prices. Himeji residents pay the lower rate. Everyone else pays the new, higher rate, including Japanese visitors from other cities.
- Residence, not nationality. The line is drawn by where a visitor lives, so it is a resident price, not a foreigner price.
- Under-18s go free. All visitors under 18 now enter free, which helps family and school groups.
- The reason. The city says the money will pay for the upkeep of the castle.

What It Means for Your Quotes
- Re-check old costings. A quote built on the old Himeji fee is now too low for every adult in the group.
- Count adults and under-18s separately. With free entry for under-18s, the age split changes the total.
- Confirm fees when you quote. Admission fees at popular sights can change. We confirm each one at the time of quoting and list them clearly.
- Keep sight fees apart from taxes. Admission is not the same as lodging or departure taxes, and each needs its own line.

Why It Matters to the Agent
A group of thirty adults multiplies a small fee change into a real gap in the margin. The agent who checks sight fees at quote time, rather than copying last year's costing, avoids that gap. Himeji is still one of the strongest day trips in Kansai, an easy run by shinkansen from Osaka, Kobe or Kyoto, so the answer is to price it correctly, not to drop it.
