Balloon Festival Group Tours: Planning Saga's Dawn Launches

6 October 2026 · Explera DMC · 2 min read

Balloon festival group tours work when the agent plans for the weather, not just the date. The Saga International Balloon Fiesta, one of Asia's largest balloon events, runs from 30 October to 3 November 2026 on the Kase River in Saga City, northern Kyushu. Our Japan team covers the event in its trade guide to the Saga Balloon Fiesta. This note covers what the sending agent controls: the early start, the backup plan and the nights around the event.

The Facts to Put in Your Proposal

  • Dates. 30 October to 3 November 2026, five days.
  • Where. The launch field is on the Kase River, on the edge of Saga City.
  • Getting there. JR opens a temporary stop, Balloon Saga Station, next to the field during the event.
  • When the balloons fly. The main launches are early in the morning, when the air is calm. Flights depend on wind and rain.

Plan the Dawn Start

  • Tell clients the start time when they book. A dawn launch means an early wake-up call, so the client should agree to it before travel.
  • Keep the transfer short. A hotel close to the field or to a station on the line makes the early start easier.
  • Offer an evening option. Night events light the balloons on the ground and suit guests who do not want an early start.

Build a Weather Backup

  • Expect some cancelled flights. Wind or rain can stop the morning launches at short notice.
  • Have a second plan ready. Pottery towns, onsen towns and a late breakfast keep the day useful if the balloons stay down.
  • Keep two mornings if you can. A group with two event mornings has a better chance of seeing a launch.

Book the Rooms First

Hotels near the venue fill early for the event week. Many groups stay in Fukuoka and travel by train, or spend a night in an onsen town in Saga Prefecture. The agent who confirms numbers early is the one who gets rooms close to the field.
