KTX trains are being tested on a new link from Songdo in Incheon to the Gyeongbu high-speed line, with test runs from mid-September 2026. Incheon is aiming for a year-end opening, but the date is not fixed and timetables are under review. Until services go on sale, Explera DMC quotes groups a coach to Seoul and the KTX from there.
Korea's high-speed KTX trains are set to start from Incheon for the first time, through Songdo, the business district where many congress groups and airport-night groups stay. Our Korea team covers the project in its briefing on the Incheon KTX link from Songdo. This note is for agents pricing group programmes that start in Incheon and continue south.
What Is Changing for Incheon?
- A new link. A 3.19 km section joins the Suin Line to the Gyeongbu high-speed line, so KTX trains can run from Incheon.
- Three stations. Songdo, Choji and Eocheon stations are being expanded for the service.
- Progress. The works were reported as about 86% complete in mid-September 2026.
- Journey times. Reporting gives about 2 hours 30 minutes from Incheon to Busan and about 2 hours 10 minutes to Mokpo.

When Could Groups Use It?
- Testing first. Comprehensive test runs began in mid-September, covering signalling, power, station buildings and platforms.
- Then verification. Facility verification tests follow in October, then trial commercial operation.
- A target, not a date. Incheon city is pushing for a year-end opening. Reporting says the date is not fixed and could slip by one to two months.
- No timetable yet. The number of trains, their frequency and the timetable are still under review by the rail operators.
Which Group Programmes Could Benefit?
- Congress groups in Songdo. Delegates staying in Songdo could travel on to Busan without first crossing to a Seoul station.
- First nights near the airport. A group that lands at Incheon and sleeps nearby could start a southern route by train the next morning.
- Southwest extensions. A direct run towards Mokpo would make the southwest coast easier to add after a Seoul and Incheon stay.

How Should Agents Quote It Now?
- Quote what runs today. Until tickets are on sale, price a coach from Songdo to a Seoul station and the KTX from there.
- Show both options for later departures. For travel after the opening, a proposal can carry the current route and the Incheon option, to be confirmed once services are sold.
- Check seats before promising one train. How many trains run each day decides whether a whole group fits on one departure.
- Keep a plan for luggage. A group on the train still needs its bags handled, and a coach often carries them ahead.
