The Tourism Authority of Thailand and Tripadvisor signed a letter of intent in Bangkok on 14 October 2026 to work together on destination promotion, traveller insight and digital marketing for 2027. Explera DMC reads it as a direction, not a programme: no campaigns, dates or budgets have been announced, so nothing changes for bookings yet.
Many leisure clients now arrive with a shortlist built from traveller reviews. Thailand's national tourism body has just agreed to work with the largest review platform on how the country is promoted in 2027. Our Thailand team covers the signing in its briefing on the TAT and Tripadvisor letter of intent. This note is for agencies and tour operators in our source markets that sell Thailand.
What Did TAT and Tripadvisor Agree?
- A letter of intent, signed on 14 October 2026. It was signed in Bangkok by Parichat Boonclai, TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, and Scott Wegener, Director of Enterprise Sales, Asia Pacific, at Tripadvisor, according to TAT.
- Three areas of work. Promoting Thailand's image and TAT campaigns on Tripadvisor, sharing data and insight on how travellers behave, and using digital channels to raise the profile of Thai destinations and businesses.
- Part of TAT's 2027 plan. TAT has called 2027 its "Year of Transformation", and working with industry partners is one of the plan's four strands.

What Has Not Been Announced?
A letter of intent states a shared aim; it is not a contract. TAT has not published campaign dates, budgets, markets or new services for travellers under it. There is nothing to book or price today, and no reason to change a programme already on sale.
How Could It Affect the Clients You Sell To?
If TAT uses the platform to promote less-visited provinces and new experiences, more clients may come to an agency already curious about places beyond Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai. That is useful, but a review describes one traveller's visit, not whether a place can take a group, a family or a client with limited mobility. Agencies can add value by checking that interest against what is on the ground: hotel stock, guide availability, travel times and the season.

What Should Agencies Do Now?
Keep an eye on TAT's announcements in 2027 for the first joint campaigns and the destinations they feature. When a client asks for a place they found online, send the request to our Thailand team, which can tell you whether it is ready for your client and how it fits a wider trip. Frequently Asked Questions
When was the TAT and Tripadvisor letter of intent signed?
On 14 October 2026 in Bangkok, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
Is the agreement a binding contract?
No. A letter of intent sets out a shared aim. TAT has not announced campaign dates, budgets or traveller services under it.
Does it change how agencies book Thailand?
Not today. Rates, bookings and supplier contracts are unaffected. The agreement concerns marketing and traveller research for 2027.
How can an agency use the news with clients?
As background only. It signals that TAT wants to promote a wider range of destinations, so be ready for clients who ask about less-visited places, and check each one with a ground team before you sell it.
