Japan raised its visa fees on 1 July 2026: a single-entry visa now costs about 15,000 yen and a multiple-entry visa about 30,000 yen, five times the old fees. Explera DMC advises agencies selling Japan groups from visa-required markets to show the fee as its own line and to confirm the local amount with the mission.
Agencies that send groups to Japan from visa-required markets now carry a much larger visa cost per traveller. Our Japan team explains the change in its note on Japan's new visa fees. This page is the short version for agencies that sell Japan alongside our other destinations.
What Changed on 1 July 2026?
- About 15,000 yen for a single-entry visa, up from 3,000 yen.
- About 30,000 yen for a multiple-entry visa, up from 6,000 yen.
- Set by an amended Cabinet Order on consular fees, in force from 1 July 2026.
- Charged by application date. Applications accepted by 30 June 2026 paid the old fee.

Who Pays It?
Only travellers who need a visa. Citizens of Japan's visa-exempt countries and regions pay nothing for a short tourist stay. Japan's missions issued 7,862,060 visas in 2025, and China, the Philippines and Vietnam accounted for 84 per cent of them, so groups from those markets feel the change most. Each embassy and consulate collects the fee in its own currency, and the ministry notes that the amount can differ by nationality and purpose of travel.
How Should Agencies Cost a Group?
- Show the visa fee as its own line. It is a government charge, separate from the land arrangements, and clients should see where it comes from.
- Use the local table. Confirm the amount with the mission that will take the application, in its currency.
- Leave time for documents. Itineraries and hotel confirmations come from the confirmed programme, so book early enough for the application window.
