Korea's Posted Room Rate Rules: What Group Agents Should Know

21 October 2026 · Explera DMC · 3 min read

The short answer

Korea now suspends lodgings that fail to post room rates or charge above them: five days for a first violation, for general lodgings since 14 July 2026 and for hanok stays and foreign-tourist urban homestays since 4 August. Explera DMC places groups in Korea on written, contracted rates checked against every invoice.

Agencies selling Korea alongside other destinations now have a clearer rule behind the room rates their clients see. Our Korea team covers the change in its note on Korea's tougher overcharging rules for lodgings; this page is the short version for agencies planning groups and add-on nights.

What Changed in Korea's Lodging Rules?

  • General lodgings. Since 14 July 2026, hotels and other general lodgings face a five-day business suspension for a first failure to post room rates or for charging more than the posted rate.
  • Hanok stays. Since 4 August 2026, the same five-day suspension replaces the earlier correction order for a first violation.
  • Urban homestays for foreign tourists. These had no duty to post rates before. They are covered from 4 August 2026.
  • Repeat violations. Later breaches draw longer suspensions.

Why Does It Matter for Groups?

  • Event dates. The government acted after complaints about room rates jumping during large concerts and events. Peak rates are still lawful if they are posted in advance and charged as posted, so early booking still matters.
  • Free-time nights. Clients who extend on their own in a hanok or guesthouse are better protected, but they should keep the booking confirmation and check the posted rate on arrival.
  • Restaurants and taxis. Tougher measures for both were reported in July 2026 as plans under review. We do not tell clients they apply until a rule is published.

How Do We Handle Group Rooms in Korea?

  • Written rates. Group rooms sit on a contract or written confirmation with the rate, inclusions and dates.
  • Invoice checks. We check every lodging invoice against the confirmation before payment.
  • On the ground. A charge above the agreed rate goes to the tour leader at once, so it can be raised with the property the same day.
