Shorter Korea Stays: Building 6- and 7-Day Group Programmes

23 October 2026 · Explera DMC · 3 min read

The short answer

Foreign visitors to Korea now stay 6.5 days on average, down from 7.8 in 2023, according to figures presented at the National Assembly audit of the Korea Tourism Organization on 14 October 2026. Explera DMC builds Korea group programmes for six or seven days, with two hotel bases and a second region reached by KTX.

Korea is getting more visitors, but each one stays for less time. That changes how agencies should size a group programme. Our Korea team sets out the audit figures in its note on shorter stays in Korea; this page is the planning version for agencies selling Korea.

What Did the Audit Find?

  • Shorter stays. The average stay fell from 7.8 days in 2023 to 6.5 days in 2025, according to Korea Tourism Organization data presented at the audit on 14 October 2026.
  • More arrivals. Foreign arrivals rose from about 11.03 million in 2023 to about 18.94 million in 2025.
  • Less spent on rooms and meals. Spending per visitor fell 17.8% on accommodation and 16.9% on dining.
  • Steady repeat visits. The repeat-visit rate has stayed between 54% and 56% for four years.

How Should Agencies Size a Korea Group Programme?

  • Six or seven days at the core. We build the main programme for six or seven days and offer extra nights as options.
  • Two hotel bases. Each hotel change costs about half a day, so on a short stay we plan two bases rather than three.
  • A second region by KTX. Busan and Gyeongju are about two to three hours from Seoul by KTX, so a second region does not need an extra night on the road.
  • Something new for repeat visitors. With more than half of visitors returning, a second-time group may prefer a region it has not seen to the Seoul highlights.

Which Short Programmes Work Well?

  • Seoul and Busan. Arrive in Seoul, take the KTX south and fly home from Busan where the airline allows.
  • Seoul and Gyeongju. Palaces and markets in Seoul, then two nights among the tombs and temples of Gyeongju.
  • Seoul and Jeju. A short domestic flight adds the volcanic island.
  • Korea and Japan. A shorter Korea stay leaves room for a few days in Japan, which our Japan team plans in the same proposal.
