Supreme Class is a private-cabin service that JR Central and JR West began on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen on 1 October 2026. Each 16-car N700S train fitted with it has two lockable cabins, one for up to two guests in car 7 and one for a single guest in car 10. Explera DMC books them for VIP clients.
Agencies with VIP and executive clients in Japan now have a private option on the Tokyo to Osaka line. Our Japan team covers it in its Supreme Class note; this page is the short version for agencies selling Japan alongside our other destinations.
What Is Supreme Class?
- Private cabins on the Shinkansen, sold by JR Central and JR West from 1 October 2026.
- Two cabins per train: one in car 7 for up to two guests, and one in car 10 for one guest.
- Fitted to 16-car N700S trains on Nozomi, Hikari and Kodama services, and only some trains carry them.
- A door that locks and opens with the same QR ticket or IC card the guest boards with.

Who Is It For?
- VIP and executive travellers who want to work or take calls in private between Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka.
- Couples who want a quiet journey.
- Small private parties spread across cabins on the same train. Larger groups still travel in the Green Car.

How Do We Book It?
- Early. With two cabins per train, we request them as soon as travel dates are firm.
- Online only. Cabins are sold through JR Central's online reservation services, so we hold the booking for the client.
- Train by train. We check which departures carry Supreme Class before we fix transfers and tours around them.
Frequently Asked Questions
When did Supreme Class start?
On 1 October 2026, on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen.
How many guests fit in a cabin?
The cabin in car 7 takes up to two guests. The cabin in car 10 is for one guest.
Does every Shinkansen have Supreme Class?
No. Only some 16-car N700S trains carry the cabins, and the railways plan to add more trains over time, so each departure has to be checked.
Can a group book Supreme Class?
Each train has only two cabins, so it suits VIPs and small private parties rather than groups.
