The Seoul to Dorasan DMZ Train Is Back: A Guide for Group Agents

25 October 2026 · Explera DMC · 2 min read

The short answer

The tourist train between Seoul Station and Dorasan, the last station before the border, resumed in April 2026 after six years. It runs one round trip on the second and fourth Fridays of each month, booked in advance with ID. Explera DMC uses it when a group's dates fit and runs the DMZ day by coach when they do not.

Agents ask us about the DMZ more than any other day trip from Seoul, and for six years the answer was always a coach. The Seoul Dorasan DMZ train changes that on two Fridays a month. Our Korea team has written the Dorasan train briefing. Here is the short version for your desk.

What Is the Seoul Dorasan DMZ Train?

  • The operators. Korail runs it with the Ministry of Unification, the Ministry of National Defense, Gyeonggi Province and Paju City.
  • The return. It resumed in April 2026 after a six-year suspension, with regular runs from 24 April.
  • The schedule. One round trip on the second and fourth Fridays of each month.
  • The rules. Passengers book in advance and show identification to enter the Civilian Control Zone.

Which Groups Should Take It?

Rail and history groups get the most from it. Arriving at Dorasan, the northernmost passenger station in South Korea, is part of the story, and a train ride tells it better than a motorway. Smaller groups that can work around a fixed Friday suit it well. Larger groups, and anyone travelling on other days, still go by coach, and that is a perfectly good DMZ day too.

How Do We Plan the Day?

First we check the calendar: if the group is in Seoul on the second or fourth Friday, we offer the train. Then we confirm the ID rules for foreign passport holders with the operator at booking. We always keep a coach plan ready, because access in the border area can change at short notice. Our DMZ group tour guide covers the coach version, and the Paju culture day pairs well with it.
