Sejong Day Trip for Groups: Gardens, Lake and Padak

12 October 2026 · Explera DMC · 3 min read

The short answer

A Sejong day trip suits groups that have seen Seoul and want a calm, green day. The city has Korea's first national arboretum built inside a city, a lake park with an 8.8 km shoreline trail, the Presidential Archives and padak at the traditional market. Explera DMC confirms coach time, venues and lunch for your date.

Most Korea programmes run Seoul, then Busan or Jeju, and skip the planned administrative city in between. Sejong is worth a look for repeat visitors, garden lovers and groups with an interest in how the country is governed. Our Korea team covers the city in its Sejong guide for groups. This note is for agents deciding whether the day fits a programme.

What Is There to See?

  • A city arboretum. The National Sejong Arboretum is Korea's third national arboretum and the first built inside a city.
  • Glasshouses. Its Four Seasons Conservatory has three iris-shaped glass greenhouses, one of them for rotating exhibitions.
  • A Korean garden. The outdoor Korean Traditional Garden recreates two pavilions from Changdeok Palace in Seoul.
  • A lake park. Sejong Lake Park covers more than 320,000 square metres of water, with five artificial islands.
  • The Presidential Archives. At the north end of the lake: documents, photographs and video from past presidents.

Who Is the Day For?

  • Repeat visitors. Clients who have done the Seoul palaces get something new without a long transfer to the south.
  • Garden and senior groups. The arboretum paths and a section of the lake trail are gentle walking.
  • Study and government-minded groups. The Archives give a clear, indoor hour on modern Korean history.
  • Food-led groups. Sejong Traditional Market is said to be where padak, fried chicken topped with shredded green onions, began.

How Do You Build the Day?

  • Morning in the arboretum. We confirm what is on in the conservatory for your date. A Matisse-themed exhibition among the plants reopened for a second season on 19 September 2026 and was reported to run to the end of the year.
  • Lunch at the market. Padak is easy to share, so a pre-booked group table works well.
  • Afternoon at the lake. A section of the 8.8 km trail, then the Archives under cover.
  • On the way, or a day out. Sejong can be a stop between Seoul and the southern cities, or a day trip of its own. We confirm the drive time for your date.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Sejong worth a day for a first-time group?

Usually not on a short first trip, when Seoul fills the days. It works best for repeat visitors, garden and senior groups, and programmes travelling between Seoul and the south.

How much walking does the day involve?

As much as you want. The arboretum paths are easy, and most groups walk only a section of the 8.8 km lake trail before stopping at the Archives.

Can groups eat padak at the market?

Yes. Padak is fried chicken topped with shredded green onions, and Sejong Traditional Market is said to be where it began. We book a group lunch in advance.

How long is the drive from Seoul?

The report on the city that our Korea team used gives no travel time, so we do not quote one here. We confirm the coach time and the venues' opening hours for your date before quoting.
