New Zealand Incentive Experiences Winners Remember

24 October 2026 · Explera DMC · 3 min read

The short answer

The New Zealand incentive experiences winners talk about afterwards include a night on Milford Sound, a glacier heli-hike, a ski-plane landing, the Kawarau bungy, a Hobbiton evening, a dark-sky night and a marae stay. Most depend on the weather or carry age and weight rules. Explera DMC builds them into one programme with buffer time.

An incentive is judged on one or two moments. Nobody comes home talking about the airport transfer. Our New Zealand team lists ten of those moments, with the operator details, in its incentive experiences briefing. This is our shorter version for agencies and incentive houses that run programmes across Asia and New Zealand, with the one point we repeat to every planner: sell these as weather-dependent, never as fixtures.

Which New Zealand Incentive Experiences Make the List?

  • A night on Milford Sound. The Milford Mariner sails at 4pm and returns at 9.15am, so guests have the fiord after the day boats leave.
  • A glacier heli-hike at Franz Josef. About four hours in total, around 2.5 of them on the ice.
  • A ski-plane landing at Aoraki / Mount Cook. Landing flights on the Tasman Glacier take about 35 to 45 minutes.
  • The Kawarau bungy and the Shotover Jet. The 43-metre Kawarau jump near Queenstown opened in 1988 as the world's first commercial bungy site. The jet-boat ride lasts about 25 minutes.
  • A Hobbiton evening. The Evening Banquet Tour runs for about 4.5 hours.
  • A dark-sky night at Lake Tekapo. The Dark Sky Project's summit tour on Mount John lasts about two hours.
  • Whales, caves and a marae. Sperm whales live off Kaikōura all year, black-water rafting at Waitomo runs for three hours, and a marae stay happens only where a marae or a Māori-owned operator chooses to host visitors.

What Do Planners Need to Check?

  • Weather buffers. We add a spare half day in Queenstown, at the glaciers and in Kaikōura.
  • Limits. Kawarau jumpers must be at least 10 and weigh at least 35 kg, and Waitomo's rafting trip needs a minimum weight of 45 kg. Collect ages and weights with the rooming list.
  • Waves, not one big group. Ski-planes, helicopters and night tours take small numbers, so a large group runs in waves.
  • Whakaari / White Island. It has been closed to visitors since the December 2019 eruption, and we do not sell visits to it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a glacier heli-hike guaranteed?

No. Weather decides flying days, so we add a buffer day.

How long is the Milford Sound overnight cruise?

The Milford Mariner sails at 4pm and returns at 9.15am the next day.

What are the limits for the Kawarau bungy?

Jumpers must be at least 10 and weigh at least 35 kg. The upper weight limit can drop when the river is high.

Can incentive groups visit Whakaari / White Island?

No. It has been closed to visitors since the December 2019 eruption.
