KTO AI Concierge: Easier Market Free Time for Korea Groups

24 October 2026 · Explera DMC · 3 min read

The short answer

Since 9 October 2026 the Korea Tourism Organization has run an AI tourism concierge in traditional markets, opened by QR code with no app. It maps shops and toilets, estimates crowds, translates menus and interprets with traders. Explera DMC uses it to plan freer market time for groups in Seoul, Busan and Suwon.

Market free time is the part of a Korea day that agents worry about most: thirty guests, one guide and a menu nobody can read. Our Korea team explains the new service in its note on the KTO AI tourism concierge. This page is the short version for agencies that sell Korea alongside our other destinations, and our view is simple: the KTO AI concierge makes free time easier, but it does not replace the meeting point.

What Does the KTO AI Concierge Do?

  • No app. Guests scan QR codes posted around the market. There is nothing to download and no account to create.
  • A map of the market. It shows shops, toilets and parking, and suggests a route.
  • Crowd levels. It estimates how busy the market is and how long the queue is at popular stalls, using CCTV and LiDAR sensors.
  • Menus and conversation. A phone camera translates Korean menus into 10 languages, and live interpretation with traders covers 34.

Which Markets Have It?

  • Live since 9 October 2026. Mangwon Market in Seoul, Haeundae Market in Busan and Suwon Nammun Market.
  • Due by the end of October 2026. Gyeongdong Market in Seoul, Andong Gu Market and Danyang Gugyeong Market.

How Should Agents Use It in a Group Programme?

  • Sell more free time, not less guiding. A guest who can read the menu orders alone, so the guide stops translating for one table at a time.
  • Time the visit by the crowd data. We check crowd levels before the coach arrives and move the market slot if the main aisle is packed.
  • Keep one meeting point. We still set a fixed point and a fixed time. The concierge helps a guest find a toilet, not the coach.
  • Place the market in the right day. Mangwon fits a day in western Seoul and Haeundae Market fits a Busan beach day. Our guide to Seoul neighbourhoods for groups and our Korea food tour note help with the rest of the day.
